Every couple of months I scan my image library to look back at images that might inspire me to do something with them. Back in February 2010, my in-laws had one of their frequent family gatherings in a house on “a” beach. This time it was on the Oregon Coast – quite a bit different from Maui or the Outer Banks of North Carolina, locations of our previous gatherings.
I had looked at this image several times, but it had some serious sensor spots that seemed to reduce its potential as a print. But, having nothing much else to do this afternoon, I decided to give cleaning it up a try. Used Lightroom to remove the spots, then processed it as a single image HDR in Nik Software’s HDR Efex Pro followed by some Topaz Adjust detail and noise reduction in the clouds to add drama. Here is the result. I kind of like it. What do you think?
After looking at the photo for a while, I thought it was a good candidate for blank and white. Here’s my result after some tweaks in Silver Efex Pro 2 (an amazing black and white processing plug-in for Lightroom).
