Moonrise over Virginia Beach Pier

After scoping out this particular moonrise on “The Photographer’s Ephemeris” I set up on the beach and awaited the apparition.  The challenge was to not have the moon’s bright light blown out while still exposing the people on the pier.  This was the best of about 10 shots over 1-2 minutes as the moon popped above the pier.

If you want to pre-visualize shots like this, then I suggest you check out an application called “The Photographer’s Ephemeris.”  Simply change the date until you get the position of the sun or moon where you’d like to see it, mark the date and time at the location chosen.  The application can show a satellite view of the area so you can plan where you need to set up to get the desired picture.

What do you think?
